ham & cheese pizza puff

I’m stuck at home today because we have tradies over, and my lunch options were looking pretty dismal. I had some sliced ham, some cheese… sadly, no left overs of last night’s delicious beef rending. It looked like I was heading down the glum road towards a ham and cheese sandwich when I was bitten by that little bug, inspiration.

I suddenly remembered this gem I made at Christmas last year. A Nutella puff pastry Christmas tree that was a hit with everyone, young and old.

Nutella Christmas tree puff

So I decided to make a ham and cheese pizza puff instead. With no tomato paste in my pantry, I had to use ketchup (but really, I’m not complaining) and I couldn’t be bothered wasting an egg on egg wash so all it took was ham, cheese, ketchup and puff pastry. So super easy, and a million times better than a ham and cheese sandwich!

Ham & cheese pizza puff
2 slices puff pastry (defrosted)
Tomato paste or tomato sauce
4-5 slices of ham, or grated ham
Grated cheese
1 beaten egg for glazing if you like
  1. Preheat oven to 195°C/385°F.
  2. Cut the corners off the puff pastry so it’s a big circle. Lay one sheet on baking paper, spread with tomato sauce, ham and cheese, and place the second sheet of puff pastry on top.
  3. Using a knife, make incisions into the puff pastry, cutting 12 ‘slices’ but being careful not to cut all the way into the middle. Twist each slice. Glaze with egg wash.
  4. Transfer onto baking tray and bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes.
