It’s summer in London!
Wait, did I say that out loud? Sheeesh. I really don’t want to jinx it.
Summer in London truly is a phenomenon. While it’s easy to say that Sydney weather is always fantabulous (and I *really* cannot wait to go back to Oz for my dad’s 60th in December) the “alwaysness” of it makes everyone quite blah-zay, like yeah our weather’s awesome all the time, the sky’s blue, the mercury’s up and yep, that’s just what we’re used to.
Not that I’m complaining about that.
But what is amazing about summer in London is that it is so rare. This makes summer all the more special so that when the warmth hits, it hits with a infectious high that affects every. single. person. Everyone’s out, everyone’s in a good mood, everyone’s disproportionately happy.
I {heart} summer in London.
Panu was away last weekend, gallivanting around Amsterdam with his mum and sister and they went to De Kas again! Gah! I LOVE THAT PLACE! But don’t worry, I had me a pretty good weekend too. After a completely inappropriately hot tongue burning lunch on Saturday, I rectified my wrongs by heading down to Southbank and enjoying a jug of Pimms (or more like two) with my gorgeous friend Mags.
We sat and chatted and ran into random friends and I totally got sunburnt on my back. But I tell you what, when you only get burnt once a year, trust me, the pain hurts so good.
Sunday saw me having the most fun I’ve ever had with two boys. Ahem.
Bea (of Bea’s of Bloomsbury) has been busy with her pop-up afternoon tea project and I volunteered to take her two boys for the afternoon – meet Toby and Lexi, the cutest pair of shih-tzu’s ever!
We took a stroll down to the park and chilled out, sometimes in the sun, sometimes in the shade and sometimes drenched in the water I splashed on them (and they splashed back on me). I am a DOG LOVER like you can’t imagine and recently my dog from back home passed away… … Bea also lost a puppy recently and reached out for me to doggie sit the boys and, at the risk of sounding totally dorky, they did fill my heart with a particular kind of love that I can’t really express.
Speaking of Bea’s pop-up afternoon tea, I myself hadn’t booked a table because to be frank I thought it would be just another afternoon tea. But when photos of the event were posted on twitter, I was like OMG. I mean check it out. This is on a rooftop! The garden and the surroundings and the space utterly floored me because there’s nothing I hate more than sitting elbow-to-elbow with the next table (unless it’s Harry).
The mercury reaching into the high twenties this week really changed London. Weather forecasts are saying it won’t last – today was meant to be only 14 degrees but wait, look outside it’s a good 25 degrees right now, so here’s hoping.
Summer. I love you. Please stay.
