ramen at Wagaya

Wow. It’s been a long time between posts. So long in fact that I had to work my brain hard to remember my website login. I don’t think I’ve ever gone this long without a post. But these days, finding the time to blog has fallen down the priority ladder, right down next to having a nap and definitely behind leisurely using the toilet. Ah yes, priorities have changed.

But I had to post about this little gem because awesomeness like this is too good not to share.

Wagaya Tapas in Newtown do a $6.50 ramen lunch special. For $2 extra, you get a side salad and three gyozas. The first time I had it, I wasn’t expecting much and isn’t that always the best? When mediocre expectations are knocked out of the park by greatness? A basic tonkotsu ramen with pork, egg and bamboo shoots, the broth is thick, flavoursome and a meal in itself.

For $6.50 (or $8.50 with the salad and gyozas) you really can’t get much better around these parts. Well, ok the banh mi from the bakery near Newtown Station is pretty awesome for $5 but this, this is a meal. And for us non-maternity paid mums, this is gold.

And if you feel like splurging, try the iced green tea latte. Full flavoured with a scoop of matcha ice cream, it may cost almost as much as your ramen but who’s counting when it comes to matcha?
